Name: Claudia Ackenson
Role: HR Consultant
1. Tell me a little bit about your current role
Currently working as an HR Consultant for a number of different companies. I love doing consultancy as I get the variety of working in different cultures. All of their needs are different which makes it exciting and stimulating.
2. What are you most proud of in your HR career
Being able to offer strategic advice which has an obvious impact on the direction of the business. Having changed the culture in a business which was like turning round a juggernaut and walking in their now knowing I was responsible for most of the good stuff ;-).
3. What advice would you give to anyone starting their HR career
You need resilience and determination in this job and also a good dose of commercial and business acumen.
4. What would you like to be doing in 3 years time
Career wise I would like to be working with Business Owners and Leaders in a more focussed way, offering coaching and leadership advice. I would also like to be a non exec director for a few choice clients.
5, What do you feel is the most innovative or unique initiative you have introduced at work
I used ‘happiness’ as the basis for improvement performance management in an accountancy firm. That was both innovative and a little bit nuts bearing in mind the people I was dealing with. I took the current buzz around mindfulness and its positive impact on life and productivity and applied it to a corporate setting using some great influencers including Shawn Anchor and Simon Nash (HR Director at Carey Olson)
6. Who has had the greatest influence over your career?
All the people I meet who generously give me their invaluable advice. All the employees I have worked with who say thank you for the changes I have made and probably me for being a bit more determined each day.
